assignment number 1...

This week I have been trying to get my assignment done. There have been some testing times resulting in me wanting to throw my computer across the library...but I didn't.

My first issue was that I had not yet purchased Word. Seen as my assignment templates were in Word, and my finished assignment needed to be submitted as such, I was willing to bite the bullet and fork out. Oh but how I tried. Apparently Microsoft have made it impossible to purchase from their store when you are in another country. Every time I got to my cart on the NZ site I was redirected to the Belgium store and faced with an error. That I can understand that as my IP address places me here... But I couldn't even purchase the english version from the Belgium store because all of my details placed me in New Zealand!... Solution: download the 30 day Microsoft Office trial off the NZ site cost = $0. Success!

Now the assignment...don't you hate it when you know your lecturers are fishing for something specific but have absolutely no idea what that is? Well this is me and in the nature of correspondence learning I headed to the forum for some help. Turns out everyone else on the forum has no idea what they are doing either...awesome. What to do...get a pep talk from that other guy that lives in your apartment thats what! Word count is starting to climb nicely.

On a more exciting note apparently the ice skating rink in Oostende opened today. May need to go have a little look see...photo's to come.

lesson #1: don't expect a quick fix...

Last Friday evening (yes, how convenient!) we received a visit from our apartment manager who came to notify us that for the past week our shower had been leaking down in to the apartment below. We agreed not to use the shower for the weekend and he would be around on Monday to fix it. A weekend of bathing in the sink, which is not an easy task, and Monday arrived. The leak turned out to be a little more serious than first expected and they will need to retile. The work will start on Tuesday and they will be in on Wednesday to finish up. Another two days of sink bathing went past and still not a useable shower in sight! Another two days of sink bathing and Friday evening rolls around...
new tiles in - check
grouting in - check
sealer on - check
tap in - check
shower stand in - check
shower hose and head...GONE!

And by the way Belgium's don't work in the weekend so hopeful, but not counting on, our shower being back to a useable state on Monday...

Lesson #1: When in Belgium don't expect a quick fix.
